From March 15, Guangdong Museum of Art will showcase 138 artworks from the archive of Liwan District. During the free ten day show visitors will be able to appreciate works from famous Chinese painters such as Liu Haili and (刘海粟) and Qigong (启功) as well as artwork created by Lingnan School's Yang Shanshen (杨善深) and Julian (居廉).
The most striking pieces in the collection are three contemporary scrolls depicting new Liwan District, named "Modern Riverside Scene at Xiguan -- the Old Guangzhou."
One of the longest scrolls, Xiguan Feng Hua (西关风华), is 1.2 meters high and 28 meters long. It took painters from Guangzhou Academy of Painting four months to complete. The central theme is the Pearl River, covering over 40 scenes such as Shang Xia Jiu (上下九), Chen Clan Academy(陈家祠) and Liwan Lake (荔湾湖).
