2011 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China was officially launched at Friendship Theater on Dec. 5.

It was the ninth time the masters of documentary filmmakers across the world gathered in the Chinese city. Several awards were presented in the opening ceremony in tribute of the filmmakers as follows: 

Best Multimedia Short Documentary Film 
My World on Bus
by Zhang Zimu (China)

Best Documentary on Society & Humanity
Nastyas Hjerte by Lise Birk Pedersen (Denmark) 
Inside Lara Roxx by Mia Donovan

Best Documentary on Wildlife & Environment 
Baboon Bandits by Herbert Ostwald (Germany) 
What a Salty Lake was My Lake! by Hassan Ghahremani (Iran) 

Best Documentary on Science & Technology & Education 
Keep on Rolling (The Dream of the Automobile) by Oscar Clemente Galan (Spain/Andalussia) 
New Technology of Sturgeon Artificial Breeding by Gu Yue (China) 

Best Documentary on History & Culture
 
Lost Years by Kenda Gee and Tom Radford (Canada) 
Mrs. Carey’s Concert by Bob Connolly and Sophie Raymond (Australia)

And there were two top prizes: 

Grand Prize 
Argentinean Lesson by Wojciech Staron (Poland) 

Jury Prize 
The Next Life by Fan Jian (China)
