The organizing committee of Guangzhou’s annual flower fairs, along with Guangzhou Daily Press Group, is inviting people from around the world to visit Guangzhou and experience the Spring Festival and its flower fairs. As the Year of the Rooster approaches, people from across the globe have a chance to experience a special Cantonese-style Spring Festival in Guangzhou, where people say, “No Spring Festival without the flower fair.”

Winners of the promotional tour are invited guests and will not have to pay for their stay in Guangzhou and their travel expenses from other Chinese cities to Guangzhou.

The Cantonese style of Spring Festival Flower Fair dates back to Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and runs for three days before the Chinese New Year. According to local tradition, strolling the mile-long fair will bring blessings.

In a similar promotional campaign held last year, dozens of foreigners visited Guangzhou’s tourist attractions including, Beijing Lu shopping street, the flower fair, Canton Tower and Chen Clan Academy. Their tour of Guangzhou featured a blend of traditional and modern tastes.

During last year’s campaign, Silkina Anastasi and her husband from Russia were surprised by the warm winter in Guangzhou, and Mariella from Ecuador brought her children to burn incense and pray for a better life at Guangxiao Temple, in accord with local tradition.

The organizer now is inviting 20 “friendship” families across the globe to experience the Spring Festival with 20 local families from January 26 to 29. The invited guests include not only families, but also friends and couples.

The organizer hopes the campaign can improve friendship among people of different cultures and backgrounds and can help more foreigners get to know and love Guangzhou.

Applicants are required to be between the ages of 6 – 65. They must agree to be interviewed by local media and to publish at least two posts on social networking platforms every day during the event. The tour in Guangzhou is free, but the international participants are required to pay their international travel expenses. The deadline for applications is January 5. Applicants can scan the attached event WeChat QR code to apply.
