You don’t need to run too far to keep clear of the crowds and away from the car horns. Pearl River Park in the center of Zhu Jiang New Town could bring you a slice of peace and serenity.

Pearl River Park provides 28 hectares of paths, lakes and open spaces for escaping the din and chaos of the surrounding city. Located at the heart of Guangzhou central business district, the park opened in 2001, which is the year of the 4th China International Flower Garden Expo.

The park has a fitness road, which is a perfect course for visitors who want to take some exercise while enjoying the park. There are two trails. The outer ring of the walking trail is 1.6 km long, and a walk around the loop should take about 16-20 minutes. The inner ring is 600 m long, and it can be walked in 6-10 minutes.

Signs along the path mark how far you have walked. The signs also demonstrate some healthy knowledge such as the calorie consumption in various paces of walking.

Jogging is also a popular sport in this park, especially after eight in the evening, according to research conducted by a local newspaper. As many of the joggers are office workers from the surrounding area, and a number are single, some people suggest a love story might evolve while single joggers meet other runners in the park.

Apart from burning off sweat from exercising, the park is also an ideal location to enjoy the beauty of nature as there are over 1,070 species of plants found in the park.

Each year, the blossoming of the dream birdwood’s mucuna attracts plenty of visitors. Sunflowers, rose, lavender, lily, frangipani and many other kinds of flowers are waiting for you to discover them in the park. Now is the season of the lotus, which you can find in a pond inside the park.
