The 2012 China International Model Contest was officially launched in Guangzhou on July 4. Local officials, noted fashion celebrities, media and other guests gathered at the fashion display center of the TIT Creative Park, one of the landmark areas near the Canton Tower, to witness the grand press conference and launching ceremony of the contest.

A highlight of the conference was the fashion show given by dozens of local excellent models. Wearing  fashionable and exotic dresses designed by renowned Chinese fashion designer Qu Dingnan (屈汀南), these models staged a wonderful performance in the limelight.

The contest will select 13 models (top three winners and top ten Guangzhou professional models) out of 50 candidates from 8 competition areas around China. Winners will take part in a micro-movie shoot and a fashion reality show as well as receive packaging and promoting of a Chinese professional modeling company to make them world-class super models.

"The contest will combine with the culture of Guangzhou to promote the energetic city to the world through a series of events such as charity, scenery shooting and themed activities." said Jiang Maolin, the secretary of the contest's committee and the vice chairman of the Guangdong Modeling Association.

The contest also coincided with Guangzhou Fashion Week, or Guangzhou International Fashion Festival, providing excellent models throughout the festival.

Distinguished guests are turning a steering wheel around, which symbolizes the launching of the contest.

Guangdong province has long been the center for seasonal product launching of clothing brands every year. The festival held in its capital city Guangzhou has provided the franchisees all over the country with a platform of display and cooperation.

Guangdong province has more than 30,000 clothing enterprises and 26 clusters of clothing-related enterprises, including the biggest area of clothing manufacture and trade in China - China Liuhua Fashion District. Their products take up a quarter of the total amount of clothing manufactured in China. Meanwhile, the past few years have witnessed a growing number of middle and high income consumers that have become increasingly aware of the brand of the clothes they buy. The huge domestic fashion market has also helped with Guangzhou's ambition to be an international fashion arena.
