Brazilian football star Robinbo arrived in Guangzhou on July 20 to join the Guangzhou Evergrande football club. Provided with several choices, the former Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan winger finally sealed the contract with Evergrande.

The signing of Robinbo was urged by Evergrande’s new head coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, who led Brazil to the championship of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Evergrande completed the deal in one night. Scolari also recently joined the club, coming to Evergrande last month after the Italian, Fabio Cannavaro, had been dismissed.

The contract for Robinbo lasts six months, and Evergrande will be entitled to first priority forbrenewal rights. “Evergrande is well-known in Brazil, I’ve already heard that it’s a rapid-growing club with huge opportunities," Robinbo said. "With the help of my head coach and fellow Brazilian teammates, surely I will get used to the team soon.” Currently, besides Robinno, Scolari has six Brazilians on his squad, including Elkeson, Ricardo Goulart, Alan, Rene Junior, and Paulinho.

A match is scheduled between Guangzhou Evergrande and Bayern Munich on July 23. That contest might be Robinbo’s debut at the Tianhe Sports Center. “I haven’t practiced for two weeks but I am quick in restoring myself to playing status," said Robinbo, who is eager to get back on the field, “If Scolari agrees, I have no problem at all.”

Robinbo is aware of his mission in Guangzhou, which is to help restore Evergrande back to the top of CSL (Chinese Super League), and to grasp another AFC championship. With the recent birth of his third child, Robinbo can’t wait to score his first goal for Guangzhou to dedicate to her.
