A reception for celebrating Russia Day, the June 12 national day of the Russian Federation, kicked off at Soluxe Hotel Guangzhou on June 9. Officials from Guangdong, as well as representatives from the media and consulate generals in the city, attended the event.

“This year marks the 10th anniversary since the day our Consulate General in Guangzhou opened its door,” said Mitypov Vladimir, the acting consul general of the Russian Federation in Guangzhou, at the beginning of the reception. Vladimir stressed that the trade volume between the Russian Federation and the provinces in its consular districts has increased by six-fold during the first quarter of this year. The number of Chinese tourists going to Russia has seen a robust growth, and cooperation between both sides in fields like education and student exchange has gone up to a new level.

Liu Hong, the deputy secretary general of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, delivered a speech that stressed the sister relationship and cooperation between Guangdong and Russia. “Although Guangdong and Russia are geographically far apart, we attach great importance to friendly communication and mutually beneficial cooperation," he said. “By doing so, we have carried out fruitful communication and collaboration in economy and trade, tourism, industries, science, education and culture. Besides, Guangdong now is actively participating in the construction of the Belt and Road and devoted itself to enhancing foreign trade cooperation, accelerating industrial investment, promoting cooperation in maritime sectors, energy, financial services, tourism and people-to-people exchange, which will open up a new prospect for further cooperation and communication between Guangdong and Russia.”
