Every year in March the Embassies of the Francophone (i.e. French-speaking) countries organize the Francophonie Festival. This year, the Francophonie Festival celebrates its 20th edition in China with over a hundred events, held from 10 until 30 March, 2015. The events ranging from music, film, sports, literature, science, food, fashion, visual arts and theater, will be held in Chinese cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai, Shenyang and Wuhan.

French Film Encounters

Twenty films produced by 20 countries will be shown throughout 18 Chinese cities. Also, a meet-and-greet will be held with Dominique Othenin-Girard, director of "Henry Dunant, du rouge sur la croix" (Switzerland, 2015). Most of these films have never before been shown in China.

Mars en folie (March Madness) and the French Chanson Competition

Twenty-eight concerts will take place in 12 cities, featuring four French-language bands - Webster, Adieu Gary Cooper, Jeronimo and Ginkgoa - hailing, respectively, from Québec, Switzerland, Belgium and France. The musicians will arrive in Guangzhou for the show on March 10.

Joyce Jonathan, star of the French chanson genre, will come to China as a patron of the French chanson competition held in Beijing and Wuhan.

Francophonie Fashion Show

The Francophonie Fashion Show is a project that supports education and training related to the French language. The students of the French language department of Peking University will act as voluntary models to present the hairdos and make-up done by an acclaimed hair salon, TONY STUDIO's affiliate school, the Dongtian Academy. The fashion line is created especially by French fashion school IM International, which offers classes taught in French.

Film Project for the Youngest

This project is the culmination of a collaboration between the embassies of Switzerland and France, the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation, the Youth Offices and the prestigious Beijing Film Academy. Two young film industry professionals of each of these Francophone countries will work with six young Chinese film industry professionals to produce a documentary around a given, universal theme, yet with particular ties to China.

Literary Encounters with Yasmina Khadra and Tahar Ben Jelloun

These conferences and workshops are organized at the Institut français of Beijing and elsewhere in China by Yasmina Khadra and Tahar Ben Jelloun. The two authors will be in Beijing as part of the Bookworm Literary Festival, some of whose events are associated with the Francophonie Festival. Yasmina Khadra will offer a lecture at Guangzhou's Fangsuo Commune Bookstore at 15:00 on March 22.

Object Theatre Made in China

This program offers a new way of artistic expression, a French-Chinese stage creation about the role of the object in China. Compagnie "à" proposes an alternative look at these objects produced en masse in Chinese factories as well as - for that matter - the topics of consumption, mass-production and manufacturing standards.
