Young Australian of the Year Marita Cheng's Visit to Guangzhou
On 5 Dec, Young Australian of the year, Marita Cheng, was invited by the Australian Consul-General and Guangdong University of Technology to tell the story of her involvement in the foundation of Robogals.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sino-Australia diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Consulate-General in Guangzhou, the Australian Consul-General and Guangdong University of Technology co-hosted a seminar with the Young Australian of the year, Marita Cheng on 5 Dec.

During the seminar, Marita introduced her own experiences as a Chinese-Australian student integrating into Australian society as well as telling the story of her involvement in the foundation of Robogals. She also brought her robot and did a short demonstration for the audience.

The Australian Consul-General, Jill Collins and Mr.Tang Jianwei from the Guangdong University of Technology gave remarks for the event, which was attended by 250 students.

Robogals, a student organization which aims to increase participation by women in the fields of engineering and technology, was founded by Cheng during her study at the University of Melbourne. Robogals uses a variety of inclusive activities to teach students about engineering and the difference that engineers make to society. Robogals has run robotics workshops for some 3,000 girls across 80 schools in Australia and now has 17 chapters across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
