Under its long-running program, Kids’ Lab, BASF launched its first "Experiment Party” event on December 10 at Guangzhou, inviting 8 - 12 year olds to participate in the popular science education initiative.
Unlike ordinary summer vacation activities in Shanghai, Beijing and Chongqing, this pilot version is designed for weekends with a more flexible format. "Experiment Party” aims to enable more children in Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta to experience the magic of chemistry by conducting hands-on experiments in a safe and fun environment.
"Experiment Party,” brought the new experiment, "Poly Lab”, that was introduced in China for the first time this summer. This experiment inspires children to think of different ways to separate various kinds of plastics and to gain knowledge about density as well as the unique properties of a corn starch solvent that can be used to make plastic. Children can also observe and understand the properties of biodegradable plastic bags made with renewable resources. They are encouraged to improve their quality of life while protecting the environment.
Since entering China, BASF Kids’ Lab has become a "must do” summer activity for children throughout the country. "We hope that Kids’ Lab will help children understand the importance of sustainability, and inspire them to look for practical solutions for environmental protection while exploring the impact of household items on the planet. ‘Experiment Party’ in Guangzhou is a new format for Kids’ Lab. It has the possibility to cater for more children than the activities organized during summer vacations, due to the flexibility that the shorter format allows,” said Dr. Stephan Kothrade, President of Greater China & Functions Asia Pacific of BASF China.
