ZENGCHENG has unique regional position. It is located in the northeast of Pearl River Delta and east of Guangzhou, lies against the Great Guangzhou, and situated among such developed areas as Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The total area of the city is 1,741 square kilometers, with 900,000 permanent residents. It is a vital traffic hub from Guangzhou to Dongguan, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Eastern Guangdong . The entire city posses advanced transportation condition, has formed tridimensional transportation network combining waterway, landway and airway. The investment environment of Zengcheng was appraised by China City Investment Environment Evaluation Group as "Excellent" (AAA).
1.1 Highway
Guangzhou-Shantou Highway ( NO.324 State Highway ) crosses the central part of Zengcheng and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Highway ( NO.107 State Highway ) and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway go across Xintang Town of the City. Guangzhou Guangyuan Road Express Trunk Line (Guangzhou-Dongguan) and Guangzhou-Huizhou Expressway pass through the central and southern towns respectively. Zengcheng Section of Guangzhou-Huizhou Expressway sets up several exits and entries．Guangzhou North Third Ring Expressway, Zengcheng-Dongguan-Shenzhen Expressway and Xinping Highway are now undergoing tight planning and construction.
1.2 Railway
Guangjiu railway (GuangZhou-Hong Kong Kowloon) crosses those towns on the South with three Stations in Xintang, Xiancun and Shitan. The city train of Guangzhou (one tour per 15 minutes) will aIso link Xintang Town and Zengcheng down town area as planned.
1.3 Aviation
It only takes about 30 to 40 minutes by car from the City to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport .
1.4 Waterway
Xintang is close to Guangzhou Huangpu Port, China' s second largest port ( 15 km distance). Zengcheng also has passenger and cargo transport quay in Xintang, with passenger and cargo direct lines going to Hong Kong every day.

2 Development Planning
According to the "marching eastward" strategy of Guangzhou, Zengcheng has been determined as one of the nine major key development areas of Guangzhou . It will be built into the comprehensive industrial base of eastern Guangzhou , regional modern logistic center, modern urban-style agricultural production base, ecological tourism and recreational area and key higher education base of professional technology in Guangdong Province, trying to create a modern ecological new urban area in eastern Guangzhou .
3 Guangzhou Eastern Industrial Base
Zengcheng City has formed three mainstay industries – automobile and spare parts, motorcycle, and textile and garment industries. The output of jeans and leisure ware amounts to 50% of the total national output, by which Xintang Town has gained the title of "Chinese Famous Town of Jeans". The automobile, motorcycle and spare parts manufacturing industries are developing rapidly. Several production backbone projects as the second factory of Guangzhou Honda with initial investment amount of 2.2 billion and production scale of 120 thousand units, as well as the new factory of Wuyang-Honda Motors with initial investment amount of 400 million and production scale of 1 million units have settled in Zengcheng and began construction. Seventy-one kilometers east of Guangzhou City Proper along the National Highway No.324 is Zengcheng, which has a history stretching back over 1 800 years. It came into existence as a town as early as in the year 201 AD, the sixth year in the reign of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD).
Ages ago there were only six towns in Guangzhou area, and when a new town was built, it was given the name Zengcheng, meaning "newly-added town". It was established as a city in 1993, with a population of about 896, 000 (in 2000). The municipal government is located in Licheng Township, which means the City of Litchi in Chinese. Every year during the harvesting season of litchi, visitors throng to Zengcheng to try this delicious fruit, thus creating a temporary boom in tourism, so much so that in recent years, a litchi festival has been organized every July. The best of all varieties of litchi is the Zengcheng "Gualu", a local specialty. A gualu litchi was sold for 50, 000 yuan in 2001 at an auction in Zengcheng, a record high in history. It has a dark red skin with traces of green. Zengcheng is also rich in natural resources, such as coal, magnetic iron, tungsten and limestone. Its urban construction is very eye catching.
