The tourism is developed with strong impetus. In 2004, tourism revenue totaled ¥54.704 billion with a rise of 20.2%. The international tourism revenue in foreign currency totaled U.S.Dollar .897 billion with a rise of 16.9%, and domestic tourism revenue in RMB totaled ¥39.018 billion with a rise of 21.6%. Overnight tourists were 26.7471 million person-times with a rise of 12.9%, out of which domestic tourists were 22.3756 million and overseas tourists were 1.3896 million, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are 2.9819 million with a respective rise of 11.5%, 36.7% and 14.3%. Held successively China International Cooking Contest, Guangzhou (International) Food Festival and Guangzhou (International) Tourism Exhibition, promoted theme tourism lines such as University Town One-day Tour and 100-year Reputable Universities One-day Tour with good effect.
1 Eight New Scenic Spots
Baiyun Mountain:
It has been a famous mountain in Lingnan. It has enjoyed the reputation of the "First Beauty of Ram City''. The highest peak Moxingling is 382 meters high above the sea level, so-called "The First Peak Under Southern Sky". It covers an area of 30 square kilometers with a green coverage of 95%. It is really a charming and fascinating place due to green trees, clean spring water, singing birds and fragrant flowers.
Pearl River:
It is the mother river of Guangzhou. The landscape of 23 kilometers along the banks has gradually taken shape and the water becomes cleaner and cleaner with each passing day. The night view of the river is so wonderful. When the night is falling, the neon-illuminated Renmin, Jiefang, Haizhu, Jiangwan, Haiyin and Guangzhou Bridges across the river look like 6 rainbows descending from the sky. The colorful lamps along the banks and wonderfully decorated buildings make a wonderful sight.
Yuexiu Park:
The name of Yuexiu was derived from the former site of Yuewang Terrace. It is the biggest comprehensive park of Guangzhou based on Yuexiu Hill with coverage of 821,500 square meters. It is in the downtown area and famous for its two landmark buildings, Five-ram Sculpture and Zhenhai Building.
New Tianhe Area:
New Central Axis of Guangzhou City starts from Shougouling, East Railway Station, CITIC Plaza, Tianhe Sports Center, Zhongyang Dadao Avenue of Zhujiang Xincheng Buildings, and Haixinshadao Island to Chigang on the southern bank of the Pearl River. The most beautiful place along the axis is the East Railway Station Square and CITIC Plaza, especially, the waterfall scene of the Square is called Huangguoshu Waterfall at Guangzhou, closing to its south is the green square with the third largest area of its kind in China. The square with a green area of 4.7 hectares covers about 100,000 square meters.
Chen Clan Temple:
It was built in the sixteenth year (1890) of Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty and served as academy for Chen families in 72 counties of Guandong Province. It includes all kinds of folk architectural and decorative arts and is famous for its "Three Carvings" stone, wood and brick carvings), "Three Sculptures" (ceramic sculpture, clay sculpture and colorful sculpture) and "One cast "(cast iron). Therefore, it is called the best of all the clan temples in Guangdong Province.
Huanghuagang Mausoleum:
Its original name was called Honghuagang. It was built to commemorate Guangzhou uprising of the revolutionary party led by Mr. Huang Xing in 1911. On the arch of the gateway is the inscription "A Noble Spirit Will Never Perish" Written by Sun Yat-sen. Along the 230 meters path leading to the tomb are evergreen cypresses and yellow flowers. After the pool and stone arch bridge is the tombstone of the Mausoleum to 72 Martyrs.
Guangzhou Olympic Sports Center:
It is a modern complex stadium built to hold the 9th National Games of the PRC. With main arena covering an area of 300,000 square meters, it is one of the largest stadiums with best facilities in Asia holding 80,012 audiences. The roof design changed traditional round style, it was designed into a "Ribbon" style, which is the first one in China. Twenty-one bleachers with different colors look like petals and it looks like a kapok flower, city flower of Guangzhou when you see them as a whole.
Lianhuashan Mountain:
With the submit of 105 meters above sea level and composition of 40 massifs, Lianhuashan got the name from the graceful lotus-form stones in it. When you visit the Lianhuashan Tourism Spot honored "Lianhua Wonderland", you will enjoy the special landscape with combining ancient roughness with modern beauty. 2 Splendid 5th China International Cooking Contest and 18th Guangzhou International Food Festival
The 5th China International Cooking Contest and 18th Guangzhou International Food Festival organized by World Association of Chinese Cuisine (WACC)and Guangzhou municipal government was held on November 18th ~ 28th in Culture Park of Guangzhou, 520 contestants in 84 teams from 18 countries and 25 China domestic provinces (or Municipalities under direct control of the Central Government) participated in the contest, there were 40 International judges and 500 professional people attended with attraction of over 200,000 townspeople and tourists to watch the contest and taste featured delicacies from various places.
