Western Union Grants 150 Scholarships to University Students in Maoming

One hundred and fifty university students from the Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology, located in the city of Maoming, received partial scholarships on Monday (Sep. 8th) from Western Union’s corporate citizenship program and additional financial support for the Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau.
“We are donating USD50,000 (RMB 340,000) towards scholarships to commemorate Western Union services in China for 15 years. “ said Drina Yue, the Managing Director and Senior Vice President of Western Union Asia Pacific. The Scholarship program was developed by the Guangdong Qiaoxin Charity Foundation, supervised by the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau.
Since 2003, the Western Union Foundation has donated USD1 million to China to support activities ranging from disaster relief, education support in the form of scholarships, school and library construction and vocational training and developing skills. Through the Our World, Our Family program, they support initiatives to empower individuals, families and communities through access to better education and economic opportunities.
"Education is the single most important criteria to succeed anywhere in the world,” says Ruicheng Wu, the director of the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau, also Honorary Chairman of the Guangdong Qiaoxin Charity Foundation.
