Former professional bowler Rick Benoit will chart Malaysia's bowling challenge at the Guangzhou Asian Games.
Benoit, also a renowned American-born technical ball specialist, officially started work yesterday to help national coach Holloway Cheah prepare the team for the Guangzhou assignment.
Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) high performance manager Cheah Ban Cheng said Benoit's job is to groom the team in the selection of equipment and the reading of lines on lanes.
"Benoit is highly regarded in the United States for his expertise. We hired him after reviewing our bowlers' performance in recent events," said Ban Cheng yesterday.
"In our post mortem, we realised that our bowlers needed extra guidance in both areas."
Benoit is contracted with MTBC for three months and will leave after the Asian Games.
Bowling was the biggest medal contributor for the Malaysian contingent at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. The team, led by Alex Liew and Esther Cheah, returned with a haul of three gold and three silver medals.
