A Hai (pseudonym), 30, is seen on a bridge Monday in Tianhe Gangding, Guangzhou Province where he tied thorns on his back and kneeled on a washboard for about four hours publicly begging his wife to come back home. She left him two weeks prior after discovering he was having an affair. Written on his chest in lipstick was a message, "Our son and I are waiting for you to come back home."

A Hai told passersby that she had changed her cell phone number. She worked near the bridge, however, and he was hoping she would see him while going to or from work.

"I am really wrong, honey! I am swallowing my pride, so please come back quickly," shouted A Hai.

At last, he received a call from an unknown number. After talking with a shaking voice on the phone, he put on his shirt and bowed to onlookers. "It was my wife," he said. "She asked me to go back home to be with her and stop losing face on the street."
