Within the next two years, over 30,000 bicycles will be made available across the city to citizens as an alternative mode of transport. The bicycles shall be located at 1,000 leasing points nearby metro and BRT stations, commercial centers and large residential communities.

Today, only Tiyu Xi Lu and Hengkou metro stations offer bicycles, but ahead of the November Asian Games, 300 leasing points will be put into service and another 500 before 2011. All bicycles are painted in green or yellow and GPS tracking and double locks are installed to make them burglarproof.

The 300 bicycles currently in use are available for 3 yuan per hour but prices shall probably drop to between 1 and 2 yuan after the network is fully operational. The government has also promised to build bicycle lanes on the main avenues in the near future.

Current fees:

Daily rent: 3 yuan per hour / 300yuan deposit
Monthly rent: 50yuan per month / 200yuan deposit
Yearly rent: 360yuan per year / 200yuan deposit
Deposit service: 1yuan per 12hours, 20yuan per month
