New Formulas for Public Transportation Launched

Guangzhou's traffic commission revealed yesterday (Dec. 16th) the new payment formulas it will launch on Jan. 1st. The discount system and special formulas apply to public transport users with Yang Cheng Tong cards. This time, passengers will have to use their card over 15 times in a month to start benefitting from a 40% discount, and this every month. In the first 4 months, the policy will only applied to bus riders but shall be extended to the metro in May. During these four monthes, this new system will not replace the current discount system of metro (￥55/ 20 trips; ￥88/ 35 trips; ￥115/ 50 trips).

The traffic commission estimates that this policy will benefit over 2.6 million passengers. Next year, the local government is to increase public transport financing from 600 million to 910 million RMB.

Bus	2 yuan/time (without using Yangchengtong)
	1.9 yuan/time for the previous 15 times (i.e. 0.5% off by using Yangchengtong)
	1.2 yuan/time since the 16th time (i.e. 40% off by using Yangchengtong)
Subway	55 yuan/20 times
	88 yuan/35 times
	115 yuan/50 times
BRT	2 yuan/time for the previous 15 times
	1.2 yuan/time since the 16th time
