The French annual "Beaujolais Nouveau" party was held across France and in major cities worldwide on the third Thursday of November. The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in South China put on a fantastic event in Guangzhou which attracted over 1,500 people.
For the French community and their friends and business partners, the "Beaujolais Nouveau" has become somewhat of a tradition. It has been gradually growing in size for the past seven years and since 2007 attracts each time over 1,000 people.
Director of French Chamber of Commerce & Industry in south China, Herve Lambelin told our reporter, "the Beaujolais Nouveau has been successfully held in Guangzhou for seven years. We previously held the parties in beautiful gardens outdoors, but it is cold tonight so we moved the party indoors."
The "Beaujolais Nouveau" is the name of the first wine of the year. It's a very young wine which has had little time to ferment and is often considered to be of very poor quality. But French people make an exception to their well-known desire for perfection when it comes to wine and don't drink the "Beaujolais Nouveau" for its quality, but just as an opportunity to celebrate.
Nicolas Perocheau from the French Consulate in Guangzhou told us the "Beaujolais Nouveau 2009" is better than previous years. And giving advice to anyone wishing to purchase a bottle, he added that the wine should be stored at 14℃.
