Guangzhou and Fukuoka Japan Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Sister City Relationship

On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the sister city relationship between Guangzhou and Fukuoka Japan, Zhu Xiaodan, Secretary of the Guangzhou Municipal CPC Committee, met with the delegation led by Mr. Tsutomu, Chairman of the Fukuoka Municipal Diet on the morning of Nov. 25th. Both parties exchanged in-depth ideas and views on further developing the friendly relationship between the two cities and promoting friendly communications and cooperation between the peoples of the two cities, especially between the People's Congress of Guangzhou and the Municipal Diet of Fukuoka.

Since 1991, the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress has been in friendly cooperation with the Fukuoka Municipal Diet and, in 1999, both parties agreed to have mutual visits every two years. From then on, both parties have had extensive and in-depth exchanges on many issues, such as city management, environmental protection, youth education, cultural heritage protection, ageing population solutions, port cities development, economic rejuvenation, systems of affair-discussion, local legislative procedures and public participation in legislation and more, all of which has promoted the economic and social development of the two cities.

This time around, it is pragmatically significant for both parties to exchange ideas and views on the theme of "Polices on Environmental Protection". The Guangzhou delegation hopes to learn from Fukuoka's valuable experience of balancing between economic development and environmental protection and, as well the advantages of building an ecologically- friendly city suitable for living.

Moreover, Zhu also hopes that both cities can carry on long-term mutual visits to bring the sister city relationship to a new phase and make continuous efforts to enhance the friendship of the two cities for the well-being of the people.
