26 people received badges and certificates from Zhu Xiaodan, Secretary of Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Zhang Guangning, Mayor of Guangzhou, last night (Nov. 26) at the Honorable Citizens Awarding Ceremony in the city's Dongfang Hotel.
This award goes to people from outside Chinese mainland. This year it includes 10 people from Hong Kong, 2 from Macao, 6 from Taiwan and 8 from across the world. The oldest is 76-year-old and the youngest is 40. They have been awarded this honor for their continuous contributions to Guangzhou's economic and social development.
These 26 Honorable Citizens have invested in Guangzhou a total of 12.9 billion Yuan (USD 1,889,579,100). They have also donated and raised 252 million Yuan (USD 36,912,708).
The Guangzhou Honorable Citizen awards began in 1979. Today, 399 people have received this honor, including 258 people from Hong Kong, 17 from Macao, 26 from Taiwan, 58 overseas Chinese and 40 people from across the world.
