This annual activity is organized by the Consulate General of Japan in Guangzhou, the Guangdong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Guangzhou Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Most of the 2,000 attendees were Japanese major students and staff from Japanese companies.

The Consul General, Kazuhiro Tajiri, told our reporter "the Japan Day has been successfully held for three years. We have a lucky draw at the entrance so everybody can equally have one chance to experience different kinds of Japanese culture."

The most popular activity was the display of Kimonos. It attracted many people to take photos. Anjyo Takayuki, who works in the Japanese consulate, told us "it takes at least fifteen minutes to put on a kimono with the help of a Japanese person, so not many people usually get the opportunity to try it on." A Japanese major student from Panyu told the reporter, "We really got tired of bowing in different poses. The standard tea ceremony has to be performed in a decent pose. It is really not that easy!"
