On June 29th, Wang Xiaoling, Director of the Publicity Department of the Guangzhou Municipal CPC Committee, raised the lights at the theater and announced the re-opening of the No. 13 Theater. The theater ran a pilot performance of the Nanyue King program following the lighting ceremony. The ceremony, which started that the "Weekend Theater" performances, from now on, would feature Guangzhou's own professional theater.

The No. 13 Theater is named after the location of the Drama Center Company Limited, at No.13 Xin'er Street, Tianhe District (by the Guangzhou Acrobatics House on Shuiyin Road). The original No. 13 Theater was a one-storey, comprehensive rehearsal room. It was used for internal rehearsals and small performances only, after its completion in 1979. The architectural structure has severe aging problems. Last year, Wang Xiaoling made a survey at the request of the Drama Troupe and proposed to build a new model No. 13 Theater integrating the new highlights of Guangzhou's tourism theater, incorporating the Guangzhou "drama specialty shop" and linking it with a "combination of troupe and theater".

After a year of renovation, the No. 13 Theater has turned into Guangzhou's first professional theater which can seat 393 people in the audience with full technical functions and advanced facilities. The re-opening of the No. 13 Theater ends its non-standard and imperfect usage and provides the Guangzhou Drama Center with a professional performance venue.

The No. 13 Theater will host a series of "Weekend Theater" performances starting on June 29th. There are three to five performances scheduled on each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, all of which have now been scheduled through to October.

The recently launched performances include the historical drama, Nanyue King, a little theater drama entitled Empty City Scheme and, In Love with My Ex-wife. The organizer will release the performance schedules, drama plots, profiles of the main creators and actors to the public half a year ahead of the scheduled performances. At the same time, the Drama Center also accepts social bookings for the whole theater and makes tailored dramas as required.
