The ceremony to kick off the venues renovation for the 16th Asian Games was held in the Olympic Sports Center in eastern Guangzhou on June 24th.

This renovation project is slated to spend 400 million Yuan on maintaining and transforming the said 11 venues.

In line with the requirements of both the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games as related to needed venues, the Provincial Government determined that the investment amount is adequate and approved the scale of construction.

In order to accelerate the renovation of the designated venues, the Municipal Bureau of Sports has set up a working team and appointed people to take charge. Too, the Provincial Department of Finance will also arrange people to act as local finance directors.

The Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Sports is responsible for maintaining and transforming the following 11 projects. The projects include the main and sideline stadiums of the Olympic Sports Center, the baseball (softball) fields in the Huancun Sports Training Base, the shooting range hall, the archery field, the equestrian park, the hockey fields, the Guangdong International Rowing Center (the Guangdong Slalom Park), the Guangdong Indoor Sports Stadium, the Guangdong People's Stadium, the wrestling hall, and the Guangdong Shanwei Marina.

The Bureau of Sports also acts as owner/manager to coordinate the whole work program and to help the Provincial Bureau of Construction complete the construction of the 3 venues belonging directly to the Province, that is to say, the Olympic Swimming and Diving Hall, the Tennis Center and the Comprehensive Hall of Competitive Sports.
