As one of the top ten modern bone injury schools in China, the "Xiguan Orthopedics" facility, which has a history of over 300 years, was officially enlisted into the second grouping of municipal Non-Material Cultural Heritage entities at the end of last month. "Xiguan Orthopedics" still enjoys a high reputation today, for maintaining its' three unique treatment skills including "manipulative reduction", "Fir Wood Splints" treatment of the extension-type fracture and exter use of "Ancient Prescription Plasters". Today, many Guangzhou citizens still support the "Xiguan Orthopedics" facility, saying that the treatment provides highly curative effects.
Vice President Yuan Guangde of the Orthopedic Hospital of Liwan District is the key successor of the "Xiguan Orthopedics" procedures. He presented cases illustrating that "Xiguan Orthopedics" has a long history of success for over 300 years, which is an important component of the Lingnan Bone Injury School. The facility came into being during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1616-1911), and continued through the end of Qing Dynasty and at the beginning of Republic of China. Numerous modern medical practitioners once established clinics on Guangfu Road, Longjin Road, Changshou Road, Wenchang Road, Heping Road W., Duobao Road and in the neighborhood of the Thirteen Hongs premises.
Because of the remarkable curative effects, the supply of Xiguan Orthopedics treatments fall short of demand. A long suffered spondylopathy patient at the Out-Patient Hall of the Orthopedic Hospital in the Liwan District said "You need to queue up to register one day before your treatment if you want to have a famous orthopedic doctor to treat you". The Hospital disclosed that more than 600 patients came for treatment each day. The registration and beds are short of supply.
