The geographical territory of Guangzhou is now 7,000 times larger than it was 2,000 years ago, and there is much debate over how rich the city is in cultural relics. As a result, a "Survey of Guangzhou Cultural Relics" has been initiated today (April 21, 2009), Guangzhou Daily reports.
Started in 2003 and finishing today, the survey is made up of 14 volumes containing the location and information of 4,334 cultural relics. It is the fourth such study.
All of the items recorded in the survey have detailed descriptions, photos, mapping, inscriptions, and so on.
Furthermore, in this new edition each cultural relic has its own Global Positioning System (GPS) code, a 'geographic ID card' that can help improve tracking and research of the relic sites.
Some of the newly marked cultural relics:
Baiyun Temple (at Baiyun Mountain), Shixiang Cliff, Panyu Xitang Ancestral Temple, Shuixi Village (in Luogang District), Overseas Chinese buildings at Luochang Village (in Huadu District), Tin Hau Temple (in Nansha District), Puhui Hospital (in Baiyun District) and the Guangzhou Diesel Engine Factory
