Survey: 50% Cantonese Have Income Cut Due to Financial Crisis Grip

How does the global financial crisis plague people's life in Guangzhou? -- 60% of 1,000 people with different background in downtown Guangzhou are worried about the economic outlook, and over 50% admitted suffering great pressure in living and career.m according to a survey conducted by the Guangzhou Institute of Social Conditions and Public Opinion and released in mid-December.
50% has less income, 40% cut expenditure
81.9% of the interviewees said the financial crisis has been affecting their lives. Among them, 30.9% got "great or very great influence"; 51% suffer "some influence". Less then 20% of all said "no influence".
The bad influence can be seen in payment as well as employment. 55.9% of them got less paid; 21.7% lost their shares; nearly 42.2% said they were going to cut the daily expenditure. 17.5% lost their jobs due to the downturn.
60% worried about price rise; 50% concerned of worse public security
What 67.2% of them cared most were price increase and income reduction. Most of them hoped that the government could control the price and drop rate for public welfare like water, power, gas, medical care, education and transportation.
Nearly 50% of the citizens were worried about that the crisis impingement is to result in worsening public security.
Civil servants and senior citizens less affected
Civil servants and senior citizens seemed to get less influence from the crisis.
Over 34.0% of civil servants and one fourth of senior citizens above 60 said their lives were not changed a bit by the crisis.
