The Eastern 2nd Ring Expressway of Guangzhou is to open next month.

After the loading tests on Huangpu Bridge, regarded as the Longest Bridge in South China, the expressway connected with the bridge is undergoing its final tests now.

On October 22nd, reporters, while driving along the expressway, saw guardrails on both sides of the bridge being painted for the last time and traffic signs on the road getting installed. Also, green plants were being planted along the expressway and relevant facilities like lighting systems were being installed.

Although covering 18 kilometers, the expressway presents unique features: the largest bridge in South China as well as the Longtoushan Tunnel which is renowned as the No. 1 tunnel in China.

As a major project on East 2nd Ring Expressway, the 2-tunnel-8-lane Longtoushan Tunnel is 2×18meters wide and 8.95 meters high, a unique design in Asia. Smooth lanes as well as capacious space create a pleasant environment one can feel while driving through the tunnel. It has been said that Longtoushan Tunnel was the first one in China to be equipped with an energy-saving LED system. Not only is the lighting pleasant for drivers but it can save as much as 45% on electricity. In addition, the black materials on the ceiling of the tunnel can help reduce noise by scores of decibels.

The expressway runs from Huocun Village in Luogang District and joins the east part of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Expressway and the Guangzhou-Gaoming (in Foshan) Expressway, thus connecting east Guangzhou with the new urban areas in south Guangzhou. With this expressway coming into operation, it will only take five minutes from Huangpu to Panyu District.
