It has been learned from the Guangzhou Subway Company on October 8th that the National Development and Reform Commission has officially approved the project so that the northern extension of Subway Line 3 can purchase another 75 trains. Maybe in the second half of 2010, the current 3 compartments would become 6, then citizens can say farewell to its crowded history.

According to the Subway Company, the National Development and Reform Commission has agreed that the Northern Line 3 and its northern extension could procure another 75 trains based on the approval of purchasing 75 subway vehicles for the northern extension of Line 3. After the purchase of the trains, there would be 270 trains on Line 3 and its extension. It was reported that the first train would be delivered in June 2010, and the total would arrive in 2011.

The Company said the first phase of Line 3 was put into operation in December 30, 2006. According to the needs of urban development, the planning of grail transit line network in the near future is also adjusted correspondingly. The construction scale has increased from 3 lines and 76 kilometers long to 7 lines and 237 kilometers in 2010. Due to the development of rail transit network, the actual passenger flow of Line 3 has a very substantial increase, so there is an urgent need to advance the implementation of the train expansion so as to increase transport capacity.

The Corporation also stated that the actual operation flow is far more increasing than the forecast of passenger flow, so Line 3 is always lack of transportation capacity. In the near future, Guangzhou will implement the preferential policies for public transport fares, the passenger flow of subway is expected to further increased, so it must be prepared to deal with this situation, the 6 new compartments will better serve the huge crowds then.
