For the first time Norwegian environmental technology is on display at the China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair in Guangzhou, which takes place in the Guangzhou International Conference and Exhibition Center from 22 to 25 September. This is the first time Norway took part in the CISME Fair. Four Norwegian enterprises are exhibiting – DNV, Jotun, Tandberg and Metallkraft.

Today’s environmental challenges, in China and globally, can only be solved through innovation and co-operation says Norwegian Consul General Tormod C. Endresen. Norway offers advanced solutions within environmental technology, which is why this sector was identified as an area of co-operation when the Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim met with the Guangdong leadership in July. We want to match Chinese and Norwegian competence in the area of environmental technology. That is why we are present at the CISMEF, adds the Consul General.

China and Norway has worked together on environmental issues for a long time. Recently, this co-operation has been intensified. An agreement on climate change between Norway and China was signed by NDRC and Norwegian Foreign Minister Støre in January. This agreement opens up for enhanced co-operation within energy efficiency, reduced emissions, adaptation to climate change, alternative energy and carbon capture and storage technology. Norwegian companies offering energy and environmental technology in China work together in a consortium, NEEC, aimed at meeting the needs of Chinese partners.

There is a new momentum in the co-operation between our countries on environmental solutions. Our companies stand ready. Our ambition is to seize this opportunity and develop solutions adapted to the Chinese reality, ends Consul General Tormod C. Endresen.

Professor Li, Deputy Director Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commision will address at a seminar hosted by Norwegian Consulate General on 23 Sep, aimed at identifying how modern technology can help solve environmental challenges. If renewable energy is to play a central role, cost reduction, scale up and stability of supply are needed. Only through innovation can these challenges be met says Professor Li. Norwegian Consul General Tormod C. Endresen adds that Norwegian technology and experience can play a vital role in achieving these goals.
