Freight depots in downtown Guangzhou have been moved and the urban area of Guangzhou would not see any freight depots by the end of 2009, said officials from the Commission of Development and Reform of Guangzhou Municipality.

In 2006, six freight depots covering about 190 thousand square meters were moved out of downtown Guangzhou. In 2007, nine freight depots along the Shahe riverlet were moved out of Guangzhou. So far, five new freight depots that cover about 608 thousand square meters have been built in northern Guangzhou.

In addition, about RMB56 billion would be invested in major modern logistics projects, including the second phase of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the new Guangzhou Railway Station, infrastructure in Nansha, the FedEx APAC Hub and the Guangzhou Logistics Industry Base. Priority would be given to these major projects.
