Survey: Only 7.2% of Employees have the Courage to Ask for Higher Salaries

It has been confirmed that 100% of workers expect a raise in salary. However, only 7.2% of them are willing talk to their bosses about the topic.

A survey of 841 questionnaires from 20 corporations covering all of Guangzhou's districts recently revealed its results. According to the analysis, staff salaries at private corporations conceal overtime worked by employees. Focusing only on that part, their salaries are under the lowest legal standard. The "concealed" salary is usually the root of contradiction between labor and private corporations.

In the survey, 83.8% of employees have signed labor contracts, but many of them consider the contracts to be a bit unfair, and 16% of the interviewees still have no contracts at all.

Employees have little knowledge of labor unions. Most of them don't even know who is the head of their labor union or where the office is located. The younger and the less educated of the interviewees had less knowledge of their collective power for salary negotiation. 54.2% of them weren't aware of the system at all.
