On July 11th the second batch of Olympic commemorative numismatics was revealed in Guangzhou. A total of 8,000 sets, each valued RMB 13 (comprising three coins and one paper note), are convertible at 14 banks. However, due to acts of collector frenzy in several Chinese cities, relevant banks of Guangzhou will disclose neither the time of availability nor the volume of the third batch of Olympic commemorative numismatics.
After the first batch of 2500 Olympic paper notes were converted, in the past few days numerous people visited to banks to learn about further conversion opportunities. Early in the morning yesterday, five major state-owned banks in cooperation with the China Mingsheng Bank and two other banks disclosed the conversion timeframe for the Olympic commemorative numismatics (coins and paper notes); in the afternoon, the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, the Postal Savings Bank, China Everbright, the Rural Credit Cooperatives, the Commercial Bank and the Guangdong Development Bank also issued the notice. Each person was limited to one of the 8000 sets. It is estimated that more than 10,000 people had queued up for their prospective trophy.
By the afternoon of July 11, the first and second batch of the Olympic numismatics, a total of 10,500 notes and 24,000 coins, have all been bought by citizens.
