Support for Earthquake Victims by U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou

On June 22, a charity walk-a-thon event was held by the U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou, to raise money and demonstrate continued support for the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake.

60,000 RMB was raised on that single day, according to Mr. Robert Goldberg, Consul General of American Consulate General in Guangzhou. Altogether, American and Chinese consulate officers and charity groups have raised more than 100,000 RMB. In addition, more money is expected from the 4th of July celebrations on June 27. The money will be donated to charity organizations, among them Half the Sky, who are assisting with the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Sichuan.

The Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific, Ambassador Christopher R. Hill, and Director General of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, Mr. Fu Lang also joined the event.
