Life of Guangzhou - Guangzhou Launches Construction of Temporary Relocation Houses in Earthquake Areas

Guangzhou launched a full construction effort to provide temporary relocation housing projects in support of the Sichuan earthquake victims. It was learned from the Guangzhou Municipal Construction Commission that Guangzhou established a special construction team to coordinate comprehensively the construction work on the temporary relocation houses. Guangzhou is to build 20,000 temporary relocation houses for the earthquake victims with a total of 500,000 square meters, all of which are to be completed in two stages targeted to be before June 25 and July 20, with 10,000 makeshift relocation houses and supporting facilities in each stage. The first batches of construction materials and equipment have been already been transported to the disaster zone.

The CPC Guangzhou Committee gave high priority to this special construction task. On May 23, Zhu Xiaodan, Secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Committee, paid a field visit to the Guangzhou Wenchuang Steel Structure Co., Ltd. in Dongchong Town, Panyu District to investigate the production situation of the prefabricated houses and then convened a work meeting at the locale, making arrangements covering the production, transfer and installation of the prefabricated houses.

The construction teams for the temporary makeshift relocation houses had selected 5 enterprises to carry out the first stage production task making it clear to each enterprise the level of the daily output expected and the types of houses to be produced. Four teams were sent to each production factory to supervise the production quality and delivery capacity, solve the problems of raw material supply, power supply guarantee, etc. For them, to ensure the production of the prefabricated houses in the first stage, and to see that all is to be completed in accordance with the requirements on quality and quantity is their top priority.
