Seventy-six special passengers, including twenty-two seriously injured patients on stretchers, forty-one other patients and their families, and ten medical professionals, arrived from Sichuan in Guangzhou on May 20. Many of the patients, ranging from five to seventy-five years in age, had suffered fractured bones or brain damage as a result of last week's earthquake. Others had had limbs amputated after their rescue from the rubble.

Hearing about their arrival, many Guangzhou residents called the hospitals to inquire about visiting hours. The vice-director of the Guangzhou Municipal No.1 People's Hospital advises that visitors respect hospital rules, maintain order, and avoid reminding the victims of the earthquake.

One hundred and sixty more patients will arrive in Guangzhou today.
