A spokesperson for the Guangzhou Forestry Administration recently announced that the construction project on the landscape corridor and scenic forest in the north of Zengcheng has officially commenced. As the essential part of the Action Plan of Building Guangzhou into a National Forest City in Preparation for the Asian Games, the entire project is expected to be completed before the Asian Games when the eco-corridor will be available to citizens.

The project includes a 30-meter wide forest along the Zengpai Highway which is planned to be the eco-corridor in east Guangzhou that connects the Asia Games competition venues to the northern sights of Zengcheng and the countryside along the Zengpai Highway. The most attractive sight of the eco-corridor is planned to be a 40-kilometer bikeway hiden in the forest. It is to be the longest bikeway in Guangzhou and one that integrates entertainment and sightseeing into the ecological system. Citizens will be able to ride their bikes experiencing the marvelous scenery and historical relics in the 4 sightseeing zones and the 8 theme roads. They can also visit the Wenshanxia Village with its history of 380 years.

There are quite a number of places of interest along the Zengpai and the Paigao Highways including the Temple of the Sorceress Hexiangu, the Temple for Gratitude Repayment, the Shilongma Reservoir, the Gaotan Thermal Spring, the Dafeng Gate, the Scenic Area of Baishui Village, the litchi woods, the banks of the Zengjiang River, the villages on south of the five ridges and the water villages of Southern China among others. In the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, there will be 4 tournaments of clay pigeon shooting, basketball, soccer, and the dragon boat races held in Zengcheng and along the Zengpai Highway there will also be the two main competition venues at the Guangzhou Clay Pigeon Shooting Training Center and the Zengcheng Competition Center respectively.

There will be sightseeing stops at regular intervals along the 40-kilometer bikeway. Each stop is large enough for over ten private cars and there are sufficient utilities, such as convenient stores and wash rooms. Traffic maps are available for tourists traveling by private cars at the gate of each stop as well. Tourists will be able to enjoy the breathtaking views of the countryside at each stop.
