Life of Guangzhou - Guangzhou Municipal News Center Opens

A simple but formal startup ceremony marked the launch of the Guangzhou Municipal News Center on May 4, 2008.

Spokesmen from the city's media groups and over 150 resident reporters attended the ceremony.

The new Guangzhou Municipal News Center is located at No. 61, Huali Road, Zhujiang New Town. It has an area of more than 400 square meters with six sections, including a news release hall, a reception lounge for journalists and VIPs, workspace for journalists, the central control room, a simultaneous interpretation room and a service zone.

Wang Xiaoling, minister of the Guangzhou Department of Publicity, indicated in her speech that making government affairs public, making democratic and clear decisions and establishing a sound news release system are necessary to the political well-being of a socialist society. And with Guangzhou moving into a new period in its history, there is also immediate work to be done to improve the overall quality of the news.

Wang Xiaoling said that the Guangzhou Municipal News Center will focus on promoting the standardization, institutionalization and specialization of Guangzhou's news releases and on ensuring that the news released by government is comprehensive, accurate, and timely.

At the ceremony, a list of news spokesmen and their contact information was presented. After the simple ceremony, a press conference on the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Torch Relay in Guangzhou was held in the newly opened center.
