Guangzhou to Witness Highlights in Olympic Torch Relay

Beijing Olympic Torch Mission will arrive at Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou this evening.

From 07:45 AM, May 7th, the public in Guangzhou will witness the exciting Olympic Torch Relay along the 40.82-kilometer route covering 5 districts of Baiyun, Yuexiu, Liwan, Haizhu, and Tianhe, with some highlights for spectators:

The Torch

‘Xiangyun’ Torch can withstand heavy rainfall of 50 mm per hour. To ensure this performance, the torch designers even ran 200 meters at seashore under typhoon attack and found the proof.

 

 

The celebrities to run

The 208 torchbearers feature many sports stars and showbiz celebrities, such as:

Yang Jinghui, the first torchbearer, was a Cantonese gold medalist of men’s 10-meter platform double in 2004 Athens Olympics, will be.

Dong Zhaozhi, the last torchbearer, was a Cantonese fencer winning world titles for 7 times and attending 3 Olympics with a silver medal.

The Motorcade

The over-1 kilometer-long motorcade for the relay consists of 40 cars and motorcycles.

 

 

The performances

Performances will be arranged at 10 sightseeing spots along the relay route, including:

The first performance at 07:45 am at the Baiyun International Convention Center, the relay starting point.

The celebration of ‘One World One Dream’ will push the event to the climax at the terminal of the relay, Tianhe Sports Center, at 17:45.
