Baiyun Airport Initiates Strict Security Checks

Updated Beijing Time

A new rule that constrains domestic flight customers from carrying liquid products has been enforced since last Saturday.

An airport security check department spokesperson noted that "wines, water and drinks of similar appearance are not allowed onboard. Toothpaste is also categorized into liquid goods and has to be consigned when the amount thereof exceeds 100 ml. CAAC Regulations on restricting liquid items in aircraft provides that passengers in the international and regional flights departing from China's airports are permitted to take in cabin liquid goods with each piece not greater than 100 ml in capacity. "Since most of toothpastes are in excess of 145 ml, far exceeding the regulated amount, passengers have to either discard them or submit them to transport as consigned packages."

"Other than drinks, some basic medicines, or some oral liquid medicines must also be consigned," said a person working for the security check point.

According to statistics, the number of waste bags for discarded liquids, which totaled 22 daily prior to the enforcement of the new regulation, rose to 35 on a daily basis thereafter.
