Guangzhou Sister Cities Joint Meeting, a meeting of about 100 representatives, directors of Foreign Affairs Offices and chairmen of Friendship Associations, from 26 of Guangzhou's sister cities and friendship cities in 22 countries around the world, closed on March 14 at the Garden Hotel, Guangzhou.
Representative from the Development and Reform Commission of Guangzhou Municipality introduced the overall economic development conditions of Guangzhou. 26 representatives from Guangzhou's sister cities and friendship cities gave speeches in turns, on the topics of features and advantages of each city, and raised collaborative projects with Guangzhou mainly concerning trade, environmental protection, education, culture, commutation and training.
On October, 2007, Mayor of Guangzhou Zhang Guangning was elected as chairman of UCLG (The World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments). A large number of representatives congratulated mayor Zhang at the meeting.
Vice Secretary-General of Guangzhou Tang Hanghao attended the meeting and delivered a summing-up speech.
