The Baiyun Immortal Temple to Be Assumed as Taoism Stage

Wang Dekun, Director of the Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Guangzhou Municipality released on December 10th when reporting to the representatives of the Guangzhou People's Congress that the Baiyun Immortal Temple would be transferred to the care of the Taoists and would be assumed as a Taoism stage, which is currently being used as teahouses and restaurants. The Christianism will build a new church in Xiaoxintang, Tianhe District. During the Guangzhou Asian Games period, the Asian Games Village will establish temporary places for religious activities.

According to Director Wang Dekun, the Guangzhou Municipal Government has recently proposed to officially assume the Baiyun Immortal Temple as a Taoism stage in two steps. The first step is to renovate and repair the surrounding environment of the Luhu Lake Park and build it into an open park, the Baiyun Immortal Temple included. Then the Baiyun Immortal Temple will be transferred into the care of the Taoists and be assumed as a Taoism stage. Director Wang said that the property rights of the Baiyun Immortal Temple still belonged to the Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area Bureau. In order to protect the environment and avoid brush fires, the Baiyun Immortal Temple will strictly restrict burning incense, which primarily works as a place to adore the Taoist regimen and Taoist culture.

Director Wang said that the planning authorities were planning to establish temporary places in Asian Games Village for religious activities, which would allow the religious athletes, coaches and referees to attend religious service casually.

In addition, the general construction planning of the much concerned Liurong Temple (Six Banyan Temple) and Dafo Temple has been basically completed. The funding problem for the expansion and dismantling of the two temples has by and large been solved.
