GZ Establishes Special Relief Fund to Petitions and Visits Involving Legal Procedures and Lawsuits

Wu Shujian, Chief Justice of the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court released at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress held on December 5th that Guangzhou has constituted Special Measures and established a Special Relief Fund to Petitions and Visits Involving Legal Procedures and Lawsuits to carry out economic rescue to those victims of cases in accordance with the requirements.

Wu Shujian disclosed that upon receiving the Recommendations on establishing a relief fund for victims of criminal cases to carry out social economic rescue to the victims of criminal cases suffering severe economic strains proposed by the NPC representatives of Huang Jianshui and etc., the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court coordinated with the Guangzhou Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs to perform several surveys to constitute the Administration Measures on the Usage of Guangzhou's Special Relief Fund to Petitions and Visits Involving Legal Procedures and Lawsuits, which was effective on June 15th, 2007.

This September, when handling a case of enforcement for a criminal suit attached with civil compensation application, the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court found that the enforcee had no enforceable properties and was in a miserable living condition. Therefore, the Court applied for the Special Relief Fund to Petitions and Visits in accordance with the stipulations of the Administration Measures, which was approved by the Guangzhou Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs to appropriate funds of RMB 40,000.
