Guangzhou Asian Games Town Breaks Ground

The ceremony for the ground-breaking Guangzhou Asian Games Town, the largest construction project of the 16th Guangzhou Asian Games, was took place in Panyu district Monday. Leaders of Guangzhou and Guangdong province including Mr. Huang Huahua, Mr. Zhu Xiaodan, Mr. Lin Musheng and Mr. Zhang Guangning attended the event.

Guangzhou has prepared to construct 82 sport fields since its successful bid for the 2010 Asian Games. This newly-launched project is the largest among the 82, with the most multifunctional establishments.

The Asian Games Town is located at the foot of Lianhua (Lotus) Mountain, to the east of Guangzhou, with an area of 2.73 square kilometers. It will be finished in June 2010. Upon completion, the town could accommodate 14000 athletes, 10000 journalists, 2800 technical workers and another 18000 staff.
