Iran plans to open a consulate general in Guangzhou, China, said Iranian Ambassador to China Javad Mansouri during his meeting with Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Tang Bingquan on the afternoon of October 15 in Guangzhou.

The visiting Ambassador also revealed the middle-eastern country is taking efforts to launch a direct flight between Guangzhou and Iran.

It is the first time for Mr. Mansouri to visit South-China's Guangdong Province.

Vice Governor Tang expressed the intent for better co-operation with Iran and thought highly of the potential.

Guangdong-Iran foreign trade volume amounted to over 5.7 billion USD, accounting for 40% of Sino-Iran trade total last year, and keeps increasing by some 20%.

At present there are 25 foreign consulates in Guangzhou.
