As of Oct. 9th, 20 yuan bank notes will be returned by ticket machines in Guangzhou's metro stations due to a lack of coins caused by huge demand recently.

Guangzhou Metro advises passengers to use Yangchengtong IC Cards instead of exchanging bank notes for coins in ticket machines. Yangchengtong IC Cards have a 5% discount for passengers taking the metro in Guangzhou.

Coin changing is still available for 10 yuan and 5 yuan bank notes.
