Eleven universities to contest in Deloitte Tax Championship 2007 Final

Guang Zhou, 13 September 2007 -11 out of the 47 participating universities winning in the group competitions have been named finalists to vie for Deloitte Tax Championship 2007 on 12 October 2007 in Guangzhou, China. Students in the group competitions impressed judges with their comprehension of tax and business issues offering practical tax solutions to simulated business cases. It is a close match in the quiz section which is a new feature for Mainland competitions and a few of the contestants achieved top scores.
The 11 teams entering the Final Competition are (listed in alphabetical order):

Group 2 South China University of Technology Zhongnan University of Economics & Law
Group 3 Nanjing University Southwestern University of Finance & Economics
Group 4 Tsinghua University Xiamen University
Group 5 Macau University of Science & Technology National ChengChi University The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology
Mr. Joseph Tse, Tax Managing Partner of Deloitte China, said, “This is the fourth year that the Deloitte Tax Championship is held. Having a balanced skillset with all-rounded knowledge is becoming an essential quality for tax professionals to excel in today's increasingly complex marketplace."
The 11 teams will meet again at the Final in Guangzhou on 12 October to solve another simulated business case. Students will present their tax solutions to a panel of judges comprising senior tax officials, Deloitte clients as well as senior tax professionals from Deloitte.
In addition to the case study competition, 22 students undertaking masters degrees at 14 schools submitted essays on New Enterprise Tax Law to compete in the Championship's Essay Competition.
Mr. Alan Tsoi, Chairman of the 2007 Tax Championship Organising Committee, said, " Eight merit papers will be selected and the authors will be invited to make a presentation to a panel of judges on 12 October to compete for the honours granted to the best three papers."
