Life of Guangzhou - 150 Thousand Parking Spots to Be Provided Within Three Years

The Bureau of Urban Planning of Guangzhou Municipality recently issued a plan outlining construction of parking places in Guangzhou. According to the plan 150 thousand parking spots will be provided during the following three years. Newly added parking spaces will be distributed in newly-built, rebuilt or enlarged units as well as city parks, theme parks, scenery sites and historical resorts. The number of spots in public parking lots and roadside parking areas will not be increased.

The plan will be publicized on www.upo.gov.cn. for 20 days before being approved. Citizens can offer their suggestions or advice through email and letters or by leaving an appropriate message online. According to experts, the allocation of parking spaces is in proportion to the annual increase of construction area in Guangzhou. In six districts where more buildings are completed each year, over 100 thousand parking spots will be provided in the coming three years. While in older urban districts, because of the small construction scale, a smaller number of parking spots will be provided and solutions of parking problems lie in the development of public parking lots and roadside parking areas. The plan will enhance parking services in Guangzhou and effectively solve parking problems caused by an increasing number of cars.
