On the afternoon of Aug. 30th, China's first Anti-monopoly Law, which requires foreign purchases of Chinese companies to go through national security checks, was approved and will be put into effect from Aug. 1st next year.

President of AmCham South China Harley Seyedin spoke highly of the approval of this epoch-making law in the interview with Lifeofguangzhou.com, “I believe that this law represents a great step forward for the Chinese legal system as China continues to become more engaged in the global economy,”he said.

In regard to the influence this law may bring to foreign-invested companies in China, Mr. Harley claimed that, without a doubt the law will have a positive impact on all companies as it sets forward clear rules on how to expand within the Chinese market.

In contrast to arguments that, the law may make foreign investors reluctant to enter into China's market, Mr. Harley insisted that, “this law will clearly encourage investment by foreign firms in China as the rules are now clearer and foreign companies know what to expect as they make decisions to invest in China.”
