Updated Beijing Time

Source: China Daily

As many as 85 pigs were killed by the heat wave in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province on Wednesday.

The number was a record high since July when the mercury climbed to over 35 C.

The local department of environmental sanitation handled more than 258 tons of dead pigs in July.

The department has had to deal with from 70 to 80 dead pigs a day during its peak period.

As the heat wave continues, farmers raising domestic animals have been urged to take measures to curb the death rate..
