Recently the Guangzhou Customs' mail clearance system has put into use at the Guangzhou Air Mail Handling Center, the first e-management for mail going through Chinese costumes.

The launch come out of more than two years of research and development.

Mail now adopts intelligent and intensive high-tech management eliminating the necessity for staff to record information related to mail on paper.

During the trial operation of the system, the Guangzhou Customs Office uncovered three cases of drug smuggling including 3,721 grams of cocaine and 18 cases of suspected violations with the detection rate increasing by 225%.

At present, the handling capacity of mail in-and-out of the Guangzhou Air Mail Handling Center has increased from 1,350 pieces per day to 3,600 pieces per hour, and the clearance time has been shortened from the original 3-5 hours to 0.5 hours.
